LCL Consolidation

Consolidated cargo refers to the transportation service which consolidates (groups) in the same transportation unit (container, truck, etc.) cargo from different exporters and importers as they don’t fill up a whole container on their own.
The term LCL stands for Less than Container Load, so when people use it they are referring to ocean freight shipping.  The different cargos are operated as a unit at the warehouse and the container is sent from the same port of origin, although it may not end all up in the same port of destination. That will depend if it’s a direct service or not.

FCL

When speaking about trucks and land transport, the terms are FTL Full Truck Loadfor a full cargo and LTL Less thanTruck Load when it’s a consolidated service.

Nowadays LCL is a form of transportation used around the world and it’s used on it’s own or as a counterpart to FCL services, for example when working with air freight, which helps clients optimize their supply chain.
